Oura’s new Health AI Coach may become your personalised wellness companion

Oura Advisor, Oura's ai health coach

Oura launched its AI-powered health coach, Oura Advisor, last month. This comes as the smart ring market is set for massive growth—from $416,9 million in 2025 to $2.5 billion by 2032.

The smart ring leader is shifting gears from simply measuring sleep and activity metrics to delivering true AI-powered personalised coaching. With its AI coach, Oura aims to become a true health companion, transforming from a data recorder into a proactive guide for better well-being.

What is the offering?

Oura Advisor leverages the rich biometric data captured by the Oura Ring such as sleep patterns, activity levels, readiness scores, and even stress resilience. It combines this data with the power of artificial intelligence, specifically large language models (LLMs) to give personalised and contextual insights.

Picture an AI companion that learns your body’s unique rhythms, natural patterns and delivers custom health insights like a trusted personal advisor. That is essentially what Oura Advisor strives to be. It can:

Help you understand your health data on a deeper level

If you have ever looked at a metric and wondered what it truly means for you, Oura Advisor can break it down.

It can discuss long-term trends, highlight patterns you might have missed, and even reference your historical data to provide context.

For instance, it could explain how consistent meal times might impact your metabolic health or flag a recent change in your deep sleep patterns and what that could signify.

Prompt you to explore areas needing attention

Oura Advisor analyses your biometric trends and lifestyle patterns to surface personalised focus areas, nudging you toward the metrics that matter most for your well-being.

Its contextual memory tracks your evolving goals and previous conversations. This creates a dynamic feedback loop and ensures its advice remains relevant to your stated health goals.

Facilitate turning insights into action

Data is just the starting point. Real change comes from action, and that is what Oura Advisor enables.

Oura Advisor can help you create action plans around specific goals, whether improving your sleep, reducing sedentary time, or boosting your stress resilience. It remembers your goals and daily data, checking in and refining recommendations over time.

Provide educational summaries on various health topics

Combining scientifically validated health insights with its science-backed approach, Oura Advisor gives valuable know-how.

Its insights dive into your sleep quality, stress management, physical activity, and metabolic wellness. It can even tailor these summaries to your recent data.

For example, referencing a week of improved sleep scores or considering an upcoming trip when discussing stress management.

Offer a customisable experience

Recognising that everyone has different preferences, Oura allows you to choose the tone of voice you prefer for your AI coach, from supportive to more goal-oriented.

You can also tailor your focus areas to match your personal health goals so the advice you get always supports your health targets.

What makes Oura different?

Plenty of smart rings track health data, but Oura takes it further with its AI-driven Advisor. The new AI feature turns raw data into personalised, conversational guidance tailored just for you.

Unlike generic recommendations based on averages, Advisor’s insights come from your unique biometrics, backed by years of research and a dedicated in-house science team.

Furthermore, Oura highlights its “compassionate” approach, aiming to create a supportive space for health-related conversations by encouraging users to engage with their well-being actively. The “Memories” feature, which allows the AI to recall past interactions and personal context, further enhances this experience.

The competitive landscape

Oura is not the only smart ring turning to AI for smarter health insights. Rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy Ring, Ultrahuman’s Ring Air, and Amazfit’s Helio Ring are also doubling down on AI and AI-powered health insights are becoming the norm.

The Samsung Galaxy Ring, for example, offers AI-driven health and fitness analysis via the Samsung Health platform. While Oura has introduced its Advisor feature, Samsung’s system similarly provides personalised recommendations derived from user biometrics.

The Ultrahuman Ring Air delivers comprehensive health metrics without requiring a subscription, including unique AI-powered features like its ‘stimulant permissible window.’ That said, it doesn’t have Oura’s chat-like Advisor feature (at least not yet).

The Circular Ring Slim differentiates itself by including a complimentary AI health coach, eliminating subscription fees while prioritising actionable advice over data overload. This creates a distinct contrast to Oura’s premium subscription approach.

It is a tight race, with each brand racing to turn raw metrics into meaningful, personalised recommendations.

Looking ahead

Oura sees AI as central to its future strategy, with Oura Advisor being a significant step in building an integrated health OS.

While other wearables are beginning to experiment with AI, Oura’s first-mover advantage in developing a fully integrated conversational health coach establishes its thought leadership in this emerging category.

Oura’s robust integration of an interactive coaching assistant demonstrates more advanced execution compared to partial implementations from competitors.

The success of Oura Advisor and similar features from competitors will likely determine the next phase of how we interact with our wearable health technology, moving beyond simple tracking to truly personalised guidance.
