Samsung Galaxy Ring – Aug 24 Launch

By Rinkle Dudhani

Wait, there’s a Samsung Ring in the works?

Samsung might as well consider starting its own jewellery line by now.

After dominating the smartwatch market for several years, the company teased the ring during its Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17, offering a glimpse of the device and naming it the Galaxy Ring. Subsequently, more details about the ring were revealed at MWC 2024.

Samsung Smart ring patents were filed in 2022, and the Korean Intellectual Property Right Information Service (KIPRIS) granted a trademark for the smart ring, indicating Samsung’s long-standing interest in this form factor.

So, here’s what we know about the Galaxy Ring so far.

What Is The Most Likely Samsung Ring Release Date?

Based on the information provided by The Elec, the most likely release date for the Samsung Galaxy Ring is in August of this year. The Samsung smart ring launch date is expected to be announced alongside Samsung’s new foldable phones at the Galaxy Unpacked event in the summer, with sales beginning “as early as August,” according to the publication.

This timeline aligns with Samsung’s previous release schedule for devices like the Galaxy Fold 5 and Flip 5, which were announced in late July and shipped in mid-August.

The Galaxy Ring’s Features Will Be All About Health

The Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring is rumoured to offer advanced health-tracking features, including ECG functionality and blood flow measurement for monitoring heart rate and blood oxygen levels. Additionally, it is speculated to support device control through Samsung SmartThings and facilitate wireless payments via Samsung Pay.

While specific details are not yet confirmed, it is suggested that the Samsung Ring will integrate with the Samsung Health app, allowing users to monitor sleep patterns, detect potential sleep apnea symptoms, and receive heart-rate alerts during sleep. The app may also provide medication reminders and insights about potential interactions with foods or other medications.

According to a Samsung executive, the Galaxy Ring aims to cater to individuals seeking more comfortable and less obtrusive health-tracking solutions.

While many aspects of the Samsung Galaxy Ring remain unclear, we’re optimistic about this upcoming wearable.

What Might The Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring Price Be?

Based on current market trends and competition with leading smart rings like the Oura Ring, the price of the Samsung Galaxy Ring is speculated to range between $260 to $450. However, it’s important to note that there is no official confirmation about the Samsung smart ring price nor its exact availability for purchase.

Should You Be Excited About This Samsung Ring?

Whether you should be excited about the Samsung Galaxy ring release depends on your priorities and preferences. If you prioritise advanced health metrics, especially related to sleep, and value minimalist accessories, then the Galaxy Ring is an exciting prospect.

It is set to offer comprehensive health tracking features, potentially providing more accurate readings than a smartwatch in certain areas. Additionally, its compatibility with the Samsung Galaxy Watch to enhance sleep tracking accuracy adds to its appeal for health-conscious individuals.

However, if you are looking for a device that offers broader functionality beyond health tracking, such as support for non-health apps and interactive features, you may find the Galaxy Ring lacking. Unlike a smartwatch, the Galaxy Ring does not have buttons, a screen, or haptic elements, making it a passive accessory primarily focused on health monitoring.
