World Heart Day 2025: Healthtech fighting the global cardiovascular crisis

From reinventing the stethoscope to turning smartphones into heart monitors, these 9 healthtech startups are changing how we fight cardiovascular disease.
World Heart Day 2025

Every September 29, the world takes a moment to focus on its number one killer—heart disease.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. In 2022 alone, CVD claimed nearly 20 million lives, that is one out of every three lives lost.

The numbers are heavy, but healthtech is offering hope. A new wave of healthtech startups is stepping up. By using AI, wearables, and remote monitoring, they’re making heart care smarter, faster, and more accessible. To spot problems before they turn deadly.

This World Hearth Day 2025, we’re spotlighting 9 heart health startups that are making a real difference. From AI-powered stethoscopes to smartphone-based heart monitoring, these innovators are reshaping the future of cardiac care.

But first, let’s understand the depth of the issue!

The rising global heart burden

In the U.S., someone dies of heart disease every 34 seconds. In India, nearly half of heart attack cases now strike people under 40. These statistics are similar across the globe.

This reality makes the push for innovative, accessible health technology more critical than ever.

Clearly, this isn’t just a problem for older generations anymore. It’s cutting lives short in their prime. And with so many communities still lacking access to timely screening, early diagnosis, and adequate care, the need for innovation has never been greater.

It is from the cracks in this very system that healthtech solutions are emerging.

World Heart Day 2025: Don’t Miss a Beat

That’s why this year’s World Heart Day theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” hits home. It’s both a warning and a call to action. We need to move, act, and innovate together, from everyday habits like a 30-minute walk to big policy shifts at the global level.

9 healthtech startups redefining heart health

From reinventing the stethoscope to turning smartphones into heart monitors, these 10 startups are changing how we fight cardiovascular disease.

#1 Eko Health

Founders: Connor Landgraf, Jason Bellet, and Tyler Crouch

Year: 2013 | Country: United States

Eko Health (San Francisco, CA) is reinventing the most basic cardiology device: the stethoscope. Their digital stethoscopes analyse heart sounds using AI to pick up on early warning signs of heart problems. Things like murmurs, atrial fibrillation, and even subtle signs of heart failure.

This means that even primary care doctors can perform expert-level screening to detect issues and catch risks much earlier in routine check-ups.

#2 AliveCor

Founders: David E. Albert

Year: 2011 | Country: United States

Known for its KardiaMobile devices, AliveCor offers FDA-cleared personal ECG technology. Their tiny, pocket-sized gadgets that connect to a smartphone and give you a medical-grade ECG in seconds. They can instantly check for heart rhythm issues like atrial fibrillation and others. For patients, it’s like carrying a mini heart clinic in their pocket.

#3 CardioSignal

Founders: Juuso Blomster

Year: 2015 | Country: Originated in Finland, based in the United States

CardioSignal turns a smartphone into a powerful cardiac monitor. Using the phone’s built-in motion sensors, its medical-grade software can detect atrial fibrillation (AFib) in just a 60-second measurement. The tech, called gyrocardiography, picks up the heart’s subtle movements, offering a convenient tool for self-monitoring, remote patient care, and immediate point-of-care diagnostics.

#4 Ultromics

Founders: Ross Upton and Prof. Paul Leeson

Year: 2017 | Country: United Kingdom

Diagnosing heart disease often comes down to reading echocardiograms and MRIs—tasks that even experts can find tricky. Ultromics uses AI to make that process faster and more accurate. Its EchoGo platform can spot subtle details with 91% accuracy. This gives doctors data-driven assessments to diagnose conditions like heart failure sooner and with more confidence.

#5 Caristo Diagnostics

Founders: Dr. Cheerag Shirodaria and Prof. Charalambos Antoniades

Year: 2017 | Country: United Kingdom

Traditional heart scans focus on plaque in the arteries but often miss inflammation, which can be just as dangerous. Caristo Diagnostics has developed the CaRi-Heart® platform, which uses AI to measure inflammation from regular CT scans. This gives doctors a new way to predict heart attacks and personalise care before it’s too late.

#6 Tricog Health

Founders: Dr. Charit Bhograj

Year: 2014 | Country: India

Bengaluru-based Tricog Health is making advanced cardiac diagnostics available anytime, anywhere with its suite of AI tools. Its InstaECG service provides 24/7 AI-assisted heart attack and rhythm analysis, while InstaEcho does the same for echocardiograms. On top of that, platforms like VCardia and KeeboHealth support continuous remote monitoring, bringing round-the-clock cardiac care to patients who need it most.

#7 Cardiotrack

Founders: Avin Agarwal and Ashim Roy

Year: 2014 | Country: India

Cardiotrack is tackling India’s shortage of cardiologists head-on. Their AI-powered portable ECG devices, combined with the Theon platform, allow primary care doctors to perform specialist-level assessments.

They’ve already screened 350,000+ patients across 600 cities and even offer at-home services. Their patented Cardiac Risk Assessment test is also an insurer-approved alternative to treadmill stress tests, making screenings more accessible and affordable.

#8 WebCardio

Founders: Aravind Ravikumar

Year: 2016 | Country: India

WebCardio is helping patients avoid repeat clinic visits with its disposable, FDA-cleared biosensors. These devices can monitor heart activity continuously for up to 7 days.

With over 16 million hours of monitoring logged for 200,000+ patients, WebCardio has become one of India’s largest providers of ambulatory cardiac monitoring, working with a network of more than 4,500 doctors.

#9 S3V Vascular Technologies

Founders: Badari Narayan and Vijaya Gopal Nagaradagadde

Year: 2011 | Country: India

Based in Mysuru, S3V Vascular Technologies builds advanced devices (3V SIRIS and 3V AGILE) for cardiology and critical care. Their portfolio includes stents, clot retrieval systems, and catheter-based tools for procedures such as aspiration and balloon dilatation. By focusing on innovation in cardiovascular devices, they’re equipping hospitals with solutions designed for lifesaving interventions.

The future of heart health

This World Heart Day, we can’t afford to miss a beat. Heart disease may be the world’s biggest killer, but it’s also one of the most preventable. With the right mix of innovation, access, and action, millions of lives can be saved.

The 10 startups we’ve spotlighted are proving that better heart health doesn’t just belong in hospitals. It can start in your pocket, your community clinic, or even on your smartphone.

So this World Heart Day, let’s do more than just raise awareness.

💓 Let’s support innovation that makes heart care accessible to everyone.

💓 Let’s push for policies that prioritize prevention.

💓 And most importantly, let’s take small, everyday steps to care for our own hearts.

Because together, we have the tools and the power to turn the tide on the world’s #1 killer.
