The Global Healthcare crisis is being faced by everyone worldwide after the infamous COVID19 Pandemic started. Healthcare companies and startups are working diligently to cure this crisis of its roots. Ultrahuman, is one company that started as an initiative to help train athletes more smartly but is now rapidly transitioning into a healthcare company. It is at the forefront of this battle against a healthcare crisis globally.
What is Ultrahuman?
Mohit Kumar, who had been an athlete, noted that sportsmen used smart gadgets substantially for training and rehabilitation. He was enthralled as a fitness fanatic and looked for similar civilian equipment but came up empty-handed. Therefore, he began working on UltraHuman with his former running partner Vatsal Singhal (his co-founder from their previous startup, Runnr, which was sold to Zomato in 2019). In November 2019, the two formed UltraHuman Healthcare Private Limited to personalise exercise and enhance healthcare with data.
Launched in June, Ultrahuman has amassed thousands of waitlist users in its first month. The company said that metabolic disorders contribute to the majority of chronic illnesses worldwide.
By helping people understand how food and exercise affect their metabolism, people would be able to make informed choices about what they eat and their activity levels, according to the company. This approach is a geography-agnostic way to help people eat and exercise better, it said.
From Sports Fitness to Global Healthcare:
The company’s subscription-based business model has mostly targeted sports and fitness enthusiasts who want to track their blood sugar levels. However, metabolic abnormalities were shockingly widespread even among this healthy group—up to 30% of users have some sort of issue.
This conclusion prompted Ultrahuman’s founders to look into a new market: people with metabolic health concerns looking for a simple approach to treat their symptoms. Metabolic health issues affect over a billion individuals globally, and they are a contributing factor in 85 percent of all chronic diseases. A simple way to track and control your metabolic health could be game-changing for healthcare around the world.
With this mission in mind, Ultrahuman started looking for investments and other resources. Alpha Wave Incubation led a $17.5 million Series B round of fundraising for Ultrahuman. Steadview Capital, Nexus Venture Partners, Blume Ventures, and Utsav Somani of iSeed Fund also invested in the Bangalore-based software. Subsequently, renowned investors like Scott Shleifer of Tiger Global, Deepinder Goyal of Zomato, Kunal Shah (CEO of Cred), and Gaurav Munjal and Romain Saini of Unacademy invested in Ultrahuman. This takes the total money raised by the company to $25 million.
Ultrahuman now has the resources it needs to advance its plot to the next level. The funds raised will be used to extend the company’s geographic footprint, with intentions to start in both Europe and the United States. Kumar also wants to emphasise Ultrahuman’s continued investment in the product, pointing out chances to develop ever more sophisticated uses for its data.
