This team of Toru-based scientists and engineers has created the world’s first and only innovative solution for the purification and desalination of water without the use of an energy source, which will aid in the resolution of global freshwater shortages.

What Is The Technology and How It Works?: 

In a nutshell, NANOSEENX is a new, revolutionary Water Desalination and Filtration Technology that employs specially created Nanomembranes that can trap impurities and salt in their pores and are cascaded inside a cylindrical device to use gravity to carry out filtration, thereby eliminating the need for the use of energy or pressure. As a result, this technological solution is the first in the world to be used for water purification and desalination without the use of an energy source, with the potential to help solve global freshwater shortages. 

In addition to salt, the technology can remove micro and nano plastics, bacteria, viruses, and light and heavy metal ions from water. The main driving factor behind this scientific marvel is the scarcity of freshwater as a result of water pollution, which is a major concern, as well as other factors such as agricultural runoff, nutrient pollution from phosphates and nitrogen, industrial waste, city sewage, and much more.

As we discussed above the NanoseenX uses specially designed nanomembranes that can trap impurities and salt in their pores that are arranged in a cascade inside a cylindrical device which leads to filtration by using the force of gravity, removing the need for any energy source. The NanoseenX team creates 30 distinct types of nanomembranes that are combined to form a mixed matrix solution. The solutions are created by combining various nanomaterials that have high purity and strength, as well as being homogeneous and appropriate to the type of water purification and desalination process the product is being developed for. From 2 to 20 different types of nanomembranes are combined in one water treatment product, each designed to perform a specific function in the system.

Nanomembranes are functionalized with nanopore diameters that range from 0.1 to 0.8 nm, allowing for water purification and desalination at individual stages of a typical membrane functionality (i.e., “step by step” from a given size of contaminant or salt ion to the smallest pollutants and ions).

Nanoseen’s website reports that 842,000 people die each year as a result of consuming salt water contaminated with bacteria and other contaminants, 1 in 4 deaths of children under five globally is as a result of water-related illnesses, and more than 2.8 billion people in 48 countries will face water stress or scarcity by 2025. Nanoseen has developed a device that can turn saltwater into drinkable water through nanomembrane technology in two minutes for 0.5 USD for 1,000 litres daily from one installation at a cost of just 0.5 USD for 1,000 litres daily from one installation.  

To talk about funding, the organisation is currently seed funded by Crunchbase with a funding of $100K.

Other Projects- After NanoseenX, the company came up with many more projects to solve other challenges faced by people in today’s world like:

  • NanopaintX- Functional nano-paints clean the air from air pollutants (inc. smog / CO2) and viruses.
  • NanoboosteX-It uses nanomaterials to increase the productivity of crops in agriculture and seed encapsulation.
  • NanopowderX- A powder used in the process of photodegradation of plastics, micro-and nano plastics from salt and freshwaters. 
  • NanostirX- Nanostir stirrer causes a dynamic radial flow. It ensures an effective course of the mixing process, grinding the mixed substance/materials and its quick dispersion in the solvent.
  • NanopolymerX- Innovative technology to increase the strength of commercial films/tapes/polymer materials. 

Finally, we’d like to state that the world’s challenges are becoming more complex over time, but so is the field of technology. Scientists, engineers, and doctors are doing everything they can to find a permanent solution to these problems. NANOSEEN has been doing this since its inception. NANOSEEN has several letters of intent and pilot project plans and is now looking for 4.5 million dollars to get everything up and running. The funds are needed to bring their invention to market, and they want to do so as soon as possible so that they can begin helping people, as was their original goal when they founded Nanoseen. For them, it’s less about business and more about a mission to solve a problem that affects so many people worldwide. As a result, it is clear that their desire to create a clean and sustainable environment for everyone is leading to the development of answers and solutions to problems that we have been dealing with for decades.
