India’s healthcare system has long struggled with the shortage of ICU beds and staff, leaving patients at risk. Unfortunately, around 95% of hospital beds in India are poorly monitored, exacerbating the need for innovative technology to revolutionise patient monitoring.
Dozee, a healthtech startup providing contactless remote patient monitoring (RPM) and early warning systems (EWS), seeks to address this issue. With its AI-powered sensors, devices and related services, it offers solutions to transform patient monitoring. According to a report by Sattva Consulting, Dozee’s device could save hospitals up to $268.7 million annually.
The startup recently secured $6 million in its Series A2 funding round led by existing investors Prime Venture Partners, 3one4 Capital and YourNest VC, and new backers State Bank of India, J&A Partners family office and Dinesh Mody Ventures.
Let’s discover how Dozee’s innovative AI technology is tackling the inefficiencies in the patient monitoring system.
Dozee tackling the inefficiencies in the Indian patient monitoring system
India’s current patient monitoring system is inefficient. With a lack of adequate resources and infrastructure, healthcare professionals often struggle to keep up with the volume of patients.
This results in delayed intervention, inadequate care and higher healthcare costs. Despite the problem persisting for years, there has been no effective solution to date. Dozee aims to tackle this problem with its unique solutions. Here’s how:
Dozee’s AI-powered contactless patient monitoring system
Dozee’s AI-powered RPM system captures real-time body vitals and provides round-the-clock patient monitoring, even when healthcare professionals cannot be present. It features an extensible platform that integrates with other devices such as oxygen saturation (SPO2) sensor, electrocardiogram (ECG) and temperature sensor, allowing doctors to optimise treatment plans.
Its Early Warning System (EWS) tracks trends and alerts healthcare providers about patients’ clinical deterioration, enabling timely medical intervention. In sync with the Union government’s AtmaNirbhar, its technology is patented and clinically proven to be 98.4% accurate.
With its efficient system, Dozee frees healthcare staff to attend to other tasks and patients, ultimately improving the quality of care, reducing healthcare costs and saving more lives.
How does Dozee work?
Dozee uses Ballistocardiography (BCG) to capture micro-vibrations produced by a patient’s body, including heartbeat, respiration, tremors, seizures and posture changes. The AI-powered sensors are placed under the patient’s mattress, non-invasively capturing the micro-vibrations and ensuring patient comfort.
The sensors capture 250 data samples per second, providing a consistent stream of patient data—heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, sleep stages and stress recovery—that enables early detection of any deterioration or abnormalities.
Doctors and healthcare teams can remotely monitor the patient’s health from a centralised patient monitor, where hundreds of patients can be watched from the web dashboard and mobile app. With this system, Dozee claims to save over 2.5 hours of nursing time per patient per day.
Dozee’s impact and achievements
Dozee’s Contactless Vital Signs Measurement system has been established in more than 370 hospitals in over 40 districts, making it a reliable option for remote monitoring. It recently received 510(k) clearance from the US FDA, demonstrating that the Indian startup meets global standards for medical devices and algorithms.
Dozee also recently announced its collaboration with British International Investment, a UK-based development finance organisation and impact investor, to connect its technology to around 6,000 hospital beds in approximately 140 public hospitals across India as well as other locations.
Dozee’s funding and future goals
The healthtech startup has raised over $24 million across five funding rounds. It plans to use its recent $6 million funding to tap 2,000+ hospitals in over 100 districts in the next two years and begin the era of ‘Made in India’ products in the global market.
Its future goals are to penetrate deeper into the Indian healthcare market, expand operations globally and strengthen its research and development capabilities. With India’s healthtech market expected to reach $21 Bn by 2025, Dozee has a huge opportunity to scale and make a difference in the healthcare industry.
About Dozee
Dozee is a Bangalore-based healthtech startup founded in 2015 by IIT graduates Mudit Dandwate and Gaurav Parchani. The founders were frustrated with outdated BCG technology and wanted to work on innovative technology to improve healthcare, leading to the birth of Dozee.
Competing with global giants such as Biofourmis and iRhythmTech across multiple categories, Dozee’s unique technology has allowed them to stand out in the Indian healthcare market.
