Body temperature sensor in Apple Watch Series 8

No one can deny Apple wants to make it’s Series 8 watch much more than a trendy and stylish addition to your tech collection. This big tech company is on the verge of making the Apple Watch a sophisticated health monitoring tool.

Did you hear the rumour of a body temperature sensor in Apple Watch Series 8? Are you wondering if it’s true? Let’s find out.

The Apple Watch has the potential to be more than just a smartwatch. If its latest series 8 updated itself with a temperature sensor, it could help Apple level up against its competitors in the smartwatch segment.

Apple Watch features

In recent years, Apple Watch has moved from being just a fitness tracker to a health monitoring tool. Apple is working relentlessly to add sensors and algorithmic trackers for its users in all aspects.

According to Mark Gurnam, the Apple tipster, Apple Watch Series 8 might be packed with a body temperature sensor. This sensor will measure body temperature throughout the night and encourage users to use a thermometer or see a doctor if it detects fever. While the watch might not provide real-time monitoring or on-demand temperature check just yet, it might be possible in future versions.

Besides this, the already existing features of the Apple Watch are,

  • Optical heart sensor for High and Low Heart Rate Notifications.
  • Optical heart sensor for Irregular Rhythm Notification
  • ECG App
  • Low Cardio Fitness Notifications
  • Blood Oxygen Level sensor
  • Fall Detection
  • Sleep tracking
  • Tracking steps

What does the body temperature sensor in Apple Watch Series 8 mean for Apple?

The body temperature sensor can help Apple tap into potential opportunities. Given Apple’s recent efforts toward women’s health with post-pregnancy workout collection in Apple Fitness Plus and Apple Women’s health study shedding light on PCOS, the sensor will allow Apple to further tap into the Women’s Health segment.

The temperature sensor can help Apple provide women with fertility, ovulation and menstrual health tracking. This may help women looking to maximise pregnancy chances by detecting ovulation.

The sensor will also help Apple level up with competitors like Whoop 4.0, Oura ring Gen 3, and Fitbit Sense which already provide body temperature readings.

Audience response and drawbacks

Throughout its launch, Apple Watch has been receiving mixed opinions. Some netizens even say that the Apple Watch may be at the limit of what is possible to measure from the wrist.

Apple’s biggest limitation when it comes to health monitoring is that their Apple Watch never leaves your wrist. There are simply too many factors involved in the way blood flows to the wrist—the size of blood vessels, skin thickness, and so on.

Will the Apple Watch have a body temperature sensor?

While this is a burning question, we cannot guarantee any answer just yet. There have been times when third-party sources have been true and vice versa. All rumours can only be said to be true when announced by none other than Apple itself.

While Apple might be adding new features to its device, it is always clear to state it is not a medical device or a replacement for a doctor’s visit.
