The Indian startup ecosystem is the world’s third-largest, bringing innovation, transformation, and technology. National Startup Awards are an initiative by Startup India to reward and recognize the potential of startups and encourage entrepreneurs on their business journey.

The application gets evaluated under six parameters- economic impact, social impact, environmental impact, innovation, scalability, inclusiveness, and diversity. The finalists present their startups before the jury panel of 16 specialists, who are domain experts from industry, government, and investors.

National Startup Awards 2021

420 out of the 2177 startups who applied for the National Startup Awards 2021 belonged to the health and wellness sector. They spread across the subsectors- Access to Healthcare (144), AYUSH- Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (39), Diagnostics (36), Fitness and Sports (44), Life Sciences (40), and Medical devices (117). 

Of the 46 startups recognized as winners of the National Startup Awards 2021, 6 were health-related.

Startup Name- Health ARX Technologies Private Limited- BeatO

BeatO is a startup dedicated to online diabetes management. It creates an online ecosystem for diabetes to manage diabetes and other chronic conditions like obesity and blood pressure under a single roof.

BeatO has different offerings- an IOT device and a smartphone app BeatO CURV is India’s first USB-connected smartphone glucometer. The app stores all your readings and provides end-to-end diabetes management. It provides a convenient way to share the reports with your doctor.

BeatO has impacted more than 1.5 Lakh users across India and adds 15000 users every month.

Startup Name- Sascan Meditech Private Limited- OralScan

OralScan is the first of its kind cancer screening device which provides non-invasive and real-time oral cancer screening and biopsy guidance. It uses multispectral imaging technology and machine learning to help the doctor understand inflammation status, most malignant sites, and disease spread rate.

OralScan is easy to use and controlled by proprietary software that runs on Windows tablets. It helps in providing early care to cancer patients.

Grippy is a battery-powered prosthesis (robotic hand) designed and engineered to become lightweight and affordable for the Indian market. With a sense of touch and multi-grip control, Grippy is a 3D printed prosthetic hand that is safety tested and certified by NABL Lab.

Currently, it is available for people with below elbow amputation over the age of 15. Grippy has run three beta trials, has three patents filed in its name, and tested among 15 users. The team aims at making bionics as simple as switching on a light bulb.

Health workers can use, maintain and troubleshoot the medical devices on their own using the AR/VR technology apps. It helps in reducing the overall development time and cost by 20%, increasing the accuracy by 20%.
